Taichiclasses.ie is run by Barry Kirwan, physical therapist MIAPT and chen-style tai chi instructor.
Barry operates taichiclasses.ie and his physical therapy practise out of Profitness Gym in Churchtown, Dublin 14.
Barry first started practising tai chi out of personal interest and quickly realised the potential of tai chi as a suitable complement to physical therapy and the recovery from injury process. Barry has been practising tai chi himself since 2010, and attained his level 1 tai chi instructor certificate in the summer of 2013 from Grandmaster Liming Yue, Tai Chi Centre UK, and John Collins, Tai Chi Ireland. Along the way to starting taichiclasses.ie, Barry learnt a great deal from the insights of other instructors, including Alda Gomez and Nicola Jones. Barry has continued his progress in tai chi by attaining his level two instructor certification in the summer of 2017.
Barry’s background is in physical therapy. He helps people recover from musculoskeletal injury on a daily basis via hands-on physical therapy treatment. Barry graduated in 2007, after three intensive years of study, from the Institute of Physical Therapy, the founding body of the physical therapy profession in Ireland and accepted centre of excellence in the teaching of manual skills and bodywork techniques. Barry is a full member of the Irish Association of Physical Therapists (IAPT). Previously in 2008 and 2009, Barry completed and taught mat levels 1 and 2 of Powerhouse Pilates.
